One fact about our little farm is that our soil is mostly sand and rock. I was not looking forward to spending tons of time and money amending it only to see the sand swallow it all up, so I decided to go with raised beds. We have never built raised bed boxes before but decided it couldn’t be too difficult.
Off to Lowes for wood and screws.
We bought 2x6x12 foot red cedar boards figuring they would last in the elements.
Cut the 12 ft boards into 8 ft and 4 ft lengths and used the 4 ft boards for the sides.
We cut 2 x 4 boards into 18″ lengths to use as supports that would bury into the ground for added stability.
Bought 5 yards of a nice compost soil mix and filled the boxes.
We also made 4×4 herb boxes.
