I received a call from my friend and former bee keeper Linda May saying that a neighbor had a swarm that had taken up reidence at their front door. Needless to say they were not too happy about this…..I on the other hand thought it was pretty cool!
I called Candi my mentor from Crossroad Farm and she agreed to show me how we capture a swarm hive.
Suited up and making a plan of action….
Candi used her bee vacuum to gently vacuum the bees into a deep box.
The natural free hanging comb was absolutely beautiful!
As the bees were vacuumed in to the safe box we saved as much of their comb as possible by wiring it onto frames that would go into their new home.
It was loaded with honey, eggs and brood.
If you look closely here you can see the pearly white brood little C shapes down in the bottom of the honeycomb.
These are the same bees relocated that night to my house, needless to say they weren’t too sure about their new house so they hung out outside for a while. They eventually moved inside and are doing great!

Note- Thanks so much to my friend Linda May not only for letting me know about these bees but for the amazing photography included here!!!!
